Stitches:
Fdc - foundation double crochet
Dc - double crochet
Sk - skip stitch
Ch - chain
BLO - back loop only
Sc - single crochet
Cluster stitch
Yarn and hooks:
Yarn A (shown as multi) - sport weight, use 4mm hook
Yarn B (shown as brown) - dk weight, use 3.5mm hook
Yarn C (shown as cream) - dk weight, use 3.5mm hook
I used Manos Seneua. This yarn was a gift so unfortunately I can’t find the shade name. However I’ve attached images of the same yarn in a different shade if you wanted to also use this yarn.
For the brown yarn I used Stylecraft Naturals 100% Organic Cotton in the shade Coffee Bean.
Yarn C is Stylecraft Naturals 100% Organic Cotton in the shade in the shade Bone.
Notes: I would suggest trying your top as you go to ensure sizing/ placement of details.
Ch 2 and turn at the end of each row. The chain does not count as a stitch.
R1: Measure around where you want the top to sit around your waist. Take off one and a half inches (this will be the gap used to tie the top at the back). Fdc this length using Yarn A.
R2: dc in the first st, ch1, skip one st and dk in the following stitch. Repeat until the end of the row. (If you don’t finish on a dc st, either skip two stitches instead of one or don’t skip a stitch and do two dc next to each other.)
R3: hdc across.
R4: Skip the first stitch and sl st into the third. *Ch2, sk 1 st and sl st into the following stitch.* Repeat *to* until the end of the row. (If you don’t finish on a sl st you can skip over three two stitches instead of one). Fasten off.
You will now be working on the bottom side of Row 1.
R5-6: Use Yarn B. Dc across.
R7: Use Yarn A. Dc across in BLO.
R8: Dc across. Repeat this row until you reach 3 inches less than the length you want your top to be when complete.
R9: Use Yarn B. Dc across.
R10-11: Use Yarn A. Dc across.
R12: *Double crochet cluster across three stitches. Ch 2.* Repeat *to* until the end of the row. (If you have any extra stitches you can do a cluster stitch across 4 or dc in the final st)
R13-14: sc across.
R15: 1 dc, 2 dc in the same st, *sk 2 sts, 3dc in the same stitch.* Repeat *to* across. Dc in final st/sts.
R16: Dc across.
R17-18: Use Yarn B. Dc across.
R19: Sc 2, *ch 3 and sl st into the first chain, 2 sc, ch 2, sk 1, sc 3.* Repeat *to* until the final two stitches. 2 sc. Do not fasten off.
Ch 1 and sc along the side of your work. Ch 3, sk the first st, *sc 5, ch 2, sk 2.* Repeat *to* across. Sc in any final stitches.
Attach the Yarn B the other side of your work and repeat the above.
Corset Back:
Using Yarn C create a chain that is long enough to weave through the spaces you left on the sides of your work and tie a bow. Weave this chain through as shown. I tied a knot at the end of the chains to ensure they don’t come undone.
Straps:
Attach Yarn B to where you want your strap to be on the front. Ch 10, sl st in the 7th st. Repeat until you reach the length you want your strap to be. Sl st to the back of the top where you want the strap. Fasten off.
Repeat for the second strap but attach the yarn to where you want your strap to be on the back. Finish by sl st where you want your strap to be on the front. Fasten off.
Sleeve detail:
This will be sewn to the same place the straps are. Use Yarn B.
R1: Fhdc the length you want
R2: Sc across in BLO.
R3: *Ch5, sk 4, sc, ch3, sk 1, sc.* Repeat across.
Neck: Yarn B. Chain how long you want the neck piece to be. Find the sk that sits in the centre of the top and pull the chain through. Sl st to the start of the chain. Fasten off.
Create another yarn to tie into a bow in the same space.
