Materials:

  • Your choice of yarn and suggested hook size for yarn. I recommend using cotton or cotton blend yarn as I find it's easier to take care of and has more stretch but it's up to you what you choose!
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers (optional)
I used...
- a 4mm crochet hook
- Drops Muskat 100% cotton DK yarn in Peach.

Skills and abbreviations:
  • single crochet (sc)
  • sl st (slip stitch)
  • ch (chain)
  • dc (double crochet)

Pattern:

For the body:

To start, crochet a chain long enough to fit around the widest part of your bust with roughly a two inch gap left between.

Chain 1 and turn your work. Sc across. Simply repeat this until you reach the desired length of your top.

From here, ch100 (you may need to make more or less chains in order to fit you).

Fasten off. Attach your yarn to the opposite corner of the bottom of your top. Ch100 (or the number of chains you did on the other side). Fasten off.

Take your chain and pull it through your crochet work about an inch up on the opposite side. Do this with your other chain. Repeat until you have a lace up back as shown below.

For the straps (make 2):

Row 1: Chain 65. Sc in the second st from your hook. sc across 64.

Row 2: Chain 5 and turn your work. sc in the eighth stitch from your hook (third sc on row 1). *Chain 4, sk 3 st, sc in fourth stitch*. Repeat *to* until you have two stitches left. Ch 2, sk 1, dc in final stitch. Chain 1, turn your work.

Row 3: sc in the dc. ch 4. sc in the second ch4 loop. *8 dc in next ch4 loop. sc in next ch4 loop, ch 4, sc in next ch4 loop. ch 4, sc in next ch4 loop.* Repeat *to* until you have three ch4 loops left. 8 dc in ch4 loop, sc in next loop, ch4, sc in last loop.

Row 4: Chain 5 and turn your work. Sc in ch4 loop. *dc, ch1 across all eight dc stitches. Sc in next ch4 loop. Ch 4. Sc in next ch4 loop.* Repeat *to* until you have 8dcs and one ch4 loop left. dc, ch1 across all eight dc stitches. Sc in ch4 loop, ch2 and dc into final sc. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Row 5: Sc in dc. *3dc in ch sp, ch4 and sl st into first ch.* Repeat *to* in all seven spaces. Sc into ch4 loop. Repeat until you’ve completed your last 3dc in ch sp. Sc into last loop.

Row 6: sc up the side of your work. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 7-8: sc 7 across

If you need your strap to be longer, continue Row 7-8 until desired length.

Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing

Attach your yarn to the opposite end and sc7 across again. This time you’re only going to do one row. Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

I’d recommend you try your top on and mark where you want to attach the straps. The strap end with the most sc rows are the ones I sewed to the back of the top, roughly 6 stitches from the middle. When you’re happy with your placement, sew them on.

Once you weave in your ends, you’re finished!
